Town GREEN - The Fighting Irish Arrive in Cincinnati!!
(A.P.) February 10th, 2003 Cincinnati - -
New PBFFL Owner Scott Hiler was overjoyed to
bring the former Baton Rouge Mudcats back to his family's hometown.
Hiler purchased the team in early February with the sole intent of
bringing the PBFFL to Cincinnati. Hiler, who made his fortune by
financing small micro-breweries throughout the country, stated "the day
has finally come for the city of Cincinnati to enjoy a dominating and
successful football organization." Hiler has named himself as the
team's general manager, and is expected to make drastic changes in the
coaching staff over the next month. Hiler said "I have spoken with
Coach Thibedeaux, and thanked him for his hard work with the franchise.
He and his staff have been completely relieved of their duties with the
organization. We will begin to conduct interviews to fill those
vacancies immediately." The Fighting Irish will call the newly
constructed Blarney Stone Field their home. Hiler spoke of the perfect
timing, saying "the construction of the Blarney Stone began over 2
years ago with the dream that Cincinnati would soon have a PBFFL team,
and that time has come."

Irish name Slocum
Head Coach!!
(A.P.) March 5th, 2003 Cincinnati - -
The search is over. Cincinnati Fighting
Irish owner Scott Hiler named R.C. Slocum the new head coach.
Slocum served as the defensive coordinator at A&M from 1979 to 1980
and again from 1982 through 1988. He was named head coach on December
12, 1988. Slocum takes over after being asked to step down from
the head coaching position at Texas A&M in December of 2002 by school
President Robert Gates. Slocum was 123-47-2 overall at Texas A&M, but
he was 29-23 over the past four years and he lost three straight games
to the Texas Longhorns. Slocum won four Conference Championships while
at A&M, including the Big-12 Championship in 1998.
Although the coach has been lauded
as "legendary" by the likes of ESPN & Big 12 Weekly,
many skeptics wonder if Slocum can be successful on the professional
level. Slocum understands that there are many different and
challenging aspects of coaching at the professional level, but
welcomes the challenge and looks forward to the opportunity. Slocum
was quoted at the press conference held today, "Mr. Hiler has been
someone that I respect for a long time now, and I look forward to
working with him to bring a PBFFL championship to Cincinnati."
It should be noted that Hiler is a
Texas A&M graduate, and was a student during Slocum's most prestigious
years at the university. Unidentified sources have stated that this
is merely a hiring of admiration, but Hiler rebutted those comments by
saying "Coach Slocum is the man for this job. We interview 8
candidates, and after interview R.C., there was no longer a question
as to who I wanted to run this team. He will bring championship to
Cincinnati. I guarantee that." Hiler wouldn’t comment on who the
other 7 candidates were, but it is believed that one of those was
another former A&M head man, Jackie Sherrill.
