Article 2 Off-Season
This time of the year is when many owners will take time off away from the game. Two major events occur during the off-season. During the month of January, there is a freeze on player movements. This period is to prepare for the upcoming regular and post-season.

b) Annual Rookie Draft
Entry Draft:
All owners participate in this event. The annual entry draft allows clubs to draft new talent for the future success of their franchise. The draft consists of seven rounds and clubs will be permitted to draft only drafted players from the NFL draft.  Each round consists of sixteen picks where each club will be given the opportunity to draft a player from any position. All clubs will receive at least one pick per round, providing that the club has not traded it to another club. A club also reserves the right to waive their pick. The draft generally takes place in the first week of May, but may be postponed for flexibility in meeting owner's schedules.
Draft Order:
The standings from the previous season determine the order in which each club will draft. In each round, the non-playoff clubs will draft first, followed by the clubs that qualified for the playoffs. The clubs will draft in ascending order, from last through first. The club with the worst regular season record will draft first overall, followed by the remaining non-playoff clubs. The playoff clubs will draft in order of elimination. Clubs eliminated in the first round will draft after the non-playoff clubs, followed by the semi-finalists, Super Bowl finalist and the Super Bowl Champion. The Super Bowl Champion will draft last overall. Clubs with equal records will go through applicable tie breaking procedures to determine draft order priority. The exact order will be published and distributed in advance to allow owners to plan ahead. The draft order and number of rounds may be altered to account for trades or expansion.

Article 3 Pre-Season
The pre-season begins after the annual entry draft and ends when the regular season begins. Clubs use this period to re-organize the club roster for the upcoming season. This is done through various player movement options. It is at this point where all clubs will be bound to their signings for the upcoming season. Clubs will be required to finalize and submit their official roster for the upcoming regular season by the date set forth by the league each year. The final roster cut down day is generally in the second week of August. Penalties will be applied for failure to meet the deadline requirements.

Note: In this example, team A faces teams 3 teams in Division 3 this year.  Next season, team A will face 3 teams in Division 4.  The opponents are determined by order of finish from the previous year.  For example, if Team A is the division champ of Division 1, then team A will play the top 3 teams of Division 3 or 4, depending on the year.

b) Schedule Criteria
Each football club’s annual regular schedule is created with the following criteria:
- each club plays thirteen (13) regular season games
- each club plays seven (7) games on home field, seven (6) games on the road
- each club plays six (6) games vs. divisional opponents
(2 games vs. each club, 1 home and 1 away)

c) Schedule Formula
Each football club’s annual regular season schedule is created based upon their finish from the previous season. All clubs play the basic six divisional and four intra-conference games, but the remaining three inter-conference games are determined by the schedule formula. This allows for a more balanced schedule by having clubs compete against like opponents. The following illustration shows the formula for determining the schedule.

Article 5 Post Season
The post-season takes place after the conclusion of the regular season. The eight qualifying clubs advance for post-season play and face off in a sudden death elimination tournament. Their sole purpose is to survive the tournament and become the Super Bowl Champion. The duration of the post-season is three weeks.

  a) Qualifiers
Eight clubs qualify for the Super Bowl tournament each season, with four coming from each conference. The Division Champions are the clubs with the best records in their respective division and four are declared every season, one for each division. The Wild Card clubs are non-Division Champions with the next best records. The Wild Card clubs represent any division to make up the two remaining playoff spots in each conference. Applicable tie breaking procedures may be required to determine the playoff qualifiers.

b) Seeding
The four qualifying clubs from each conference are seeded in order to determine site priority and match ups. The Division Champions are seeded first and second based on their won-lost record. The Division Champion with the best won-lost record will be seeded first and the other Division Champion will be seeded second. The Wild Card clubs will then be seeded third and fourth according to their won-lost record. The Wild Card with the best won-lost record will be seeded third and the other Wild Card club will be seeded fourth. Applicable tie breaking procedures may be required to determine seeding.
